Pornography, violence prevention, and the White Ribbon Campaign (NZ)

White Ribbon New Zealand's 2016 campaign focused on giving fathers in New Zealand the skills and confidence to talk about respectful relationships, including respectful sexual relationships, with their sons. One significant influence on boys' and young men's sexualities is pornography, and White Ribbon NZ addressed this in their campaign materials.

The document in the attachment below provides background information on the links between pornography and violence towards women, and on White Ribbon’s approach to pornography. The first six pages come directly from Dr Michael Flood's Senate submission on the harms of pornography exposure among children and young people. Pages 7 onwards emphasise that to effectively promote respectful relationships, White Ribbon needs to address pornography. They offer guidance about what White Ribbon Ambassadors and spokespeople can say about pornography.
